Before Cars

Before Cars is a pop/rock band that features the original songs of Chad Channing, the former drummer of the band Nirvana, most known for his work on the album Bleach. Chad’s songs are an eclectic mix of styles ranging both lyrically and musically from quirky and light-hearted to deep and introspective. Unlike the more straight ahead hard rock driven Walk Back release in 2009, the band has evolved to more of an acoustic guitar based style on their latest album, reflecting the direction the band has gone with their live performances. Some of Chad’s musical Influences are the Young Marble Giants, early David Bowie and obscure 60’s and 70’s hits such as “Like Hope for Happiness” by the Soft Machine.

With the help of close friends Paul Burback and Andy Miller, Channing recorded a single of Old Chair and 99 to Go, released on vinyl in 2006 by Flotation Records. This led to making the full-length album Walk Back, recorded by Bleach producer Jack Endino. Walk Back, also released on Flotation Records, came out on June 12, 2009.

The band performed a sold out show opening up for Candlebox at the annual Lounge Acts benefit concert held at the D&R Theatre in Aberdeen. They were also featured on the BJ Shea Morning Experience on KISW, Seattle’s number one rock station. In February 2010 they went on a three country European tour in Poland, Germany, and The Netherlands. The current live set has more of an acoustic feel with violin on all songs, and light drums/percussion. They just completed their second album How We Run, released on February 26th, 2013, now available!
