Philana Goodrich

Philana Goodrich grew up on Orcas Island, Washington in a cabin on the beach. Brought up by two artists, music and dance were heavily encouraged and reigned king in Philana's household. Her influences run the gamut, ranging from Motown greats like Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles to the darker sounds of such contemporary songwriters as Thom York and Florence Welch.

"Soulful and jagged and groovy and minimal and weird and righteous in the sweetest way...I find myself doing a funny jerky dance whenever I hear Philana Goodrich tunes..." ….Chris Ballew, frontman for the band "The Presidents of the United States of America".

With raw sincerity and soulful invention, Philana pushes through the constraints of conventional pop. She is equally at home singing a soulful ballad, like her remarkable track, “Danny,” from her Arrows for Everyone CD, released in 2012 or the upbeat pop dance track, “Letting Go,” her first single on London Tone Music, produced and engineered by Geoff Ott and set to be released on February 10, 2014, as part of the 52X52 launch.

"Philana Goodrich writes, arranges, sings and plays piano and keyboard. She is the total package. When you get tired of pop candy and are ready for a nutritious musical meal, put on some Philana Goodrich"…. Greg Roth, Seattle Music Insider

Between 2010-2012, Philana led a tight, funky, soulful pop band of top-notch players, with a versatile repertoire and a myriad of instruments. They played all the major venues in Seattle to great acclaim, culminating in the release of the Arrows for Everyone CD, recorded at Seattle’s London Bridge Studio.

“Philana Goodrich is one of a new breed of Seattle musicians embracing pop and soul sounds with the irony-free energy of true believers. At the front and center of her sound is her voice: It's a throaty and soulful instrument that lends gravity to even the most mechanized groove, and it can milk every last ounce of drama out of a ballad like no one's business.” …Tony Kay - Contributor for The Sun Break, Seattle Concerts Examiner, and City Arts Magazine -

In her efforts to expand her musical range, contacts and network of musicians, Philana splits her time between multiple cities across the country, giving her the opportunity to collaborate with some of her favorites, like Charles "Raw Fingers" Hopper, her co-writer for "Letting Go", creating new music at London Bridge Studio and invariably balancing her creative life as a musician and award-winning hair stylist.
